Aeromexico minors flying alone

Does Aeromexico offer services for children traveling alone?

Minors traveling alone will be accepted as Unaccompanied Minors and supervised throughout their journey on direct flights or connecting flights only if operated by Aeromexico Group.

When are children accepted as Unaccompanied Minors on Aeromexico flights?

Children under five will not be admitted as Unaccompanied Minors.

An Unaccompanied Minor refers to a child whose age is between 5 and 13 years and 11 months old and who will not be accompanied on the flight by an adult passenger. The Unaccompanied Minors service is mandatory.

Minors between 14 and 18 years old can also be accepted as Unaccompanied Minors when their parents specifically requested the Unaccompanied Minor service. The Unaccompanied Minors service is optional.

Unaccompanied Minor Service (UMNR)

The Unaccompanied Minor Service (UMNR) comprises support at the check-in counters, departure lounge, care before boarding, coordination with the flight attendants before and during the boarding process, care during the flight, guidance, and custody of the child if there is a connection in the itinerary, and hand over to the person responsible at the destination airport.

The Unaccompanied Minor must be in the departing airport, for both domestic and international flights, at least three hours before departure time in case paperwork is needed. Parents or legal guardians should remain at the airport until the flight has departed and is informed about that by Aeromexico staff.

Documentation for Unaccompanied Minor

Personnel carrying out check-in of passengers on international flights is obligated to verify that they have valid documentation to travel to Mexico or from Mexico abroad. Minors, whether Mexicans or foreign, traveling to/from Mexico unaccompanied must submit a notarized document authorizing the minor to travel alone or the SAM form provided by the Mexican Institute of Migration (INM), in addition to their immigration documents. If the document is issued in a foreign country, it must bear an apostille, be translated into Spanish, and be legalized.

The document granted before a notary public by means of which, those who exercise parental authority or guardianship, authorize the minor’s travel is required for minors up to 17 years traveling alone or with any person that is not the mother, father, or the person exercising parental authority/guardianship over them.
