Austrian Airlines check-in

How can I check in for an Austrian flight?

Besides the classic check-in desks available at the airport, Austrian Airlines offers a few other options which you may use:

  • Online Check-in.
  • Mobile Check-in.
  • Kiosk Check-in.

Which are the check-in deadlines for Austrian flights?

The check-in times depend on your departure airport. Check-in deadlines vary from 30 to 60 minutes before departure. Before the check-in deadline which applies for your Austrian Airlines flight, you must be in possession of your boarding pass, regardless of which check-in service you have used (by Online, Mobile or SMS Check-in or at the Self-Check-in Kiosks), and you must have checked in your baggage.

Online Check-in

Availability and Restrictions

Up to the check-in deadline, Online Check-in is open from 47 hours before departure. You can also use Online Check-in for all Austrian Holidays charter flights from Austria and most flights to Austria.

Online Check-in is not available for flights from Dubrovnik, Split, Tirana, and Zadar. You can check the availability of Online Check-in for your flight and whether you can obtain a web or mobile boarding pass on Austrian’s website.

You can also use Austrian Online Check-in for many Lufthansa and other partner airlines, provided that you have an Austrian flight number on your booking confirmation. For Austrian codeshare flights operated by Eurowings, Tarom, Ukraine International, Air Malta, Air France, Luxair (flights to Vienna only), airBaltic, LOT Polish Airlines (flights to Vienna only), TAP Portugal, and Egyptair, Austrian Online Check-in is not available, and you must use the Online Check-in service provided by the operating airline.

Online Check-in is available for all passengers (including passengers traveling with checked baggage, infants, or as Unaccompanied Minors, passengers who need special attention) with the following exceptions:

  • When the passenger has a waitlist seat.
  • When traveling with a weapon.
  • When traveling with special baggage in the cabin (e.g. music instruments).
  • When traveling with animals (neither with a pet in the cabin nor in the cargo compartment).

Options

Through Online Check-in, Austrian Airlines offers its passengers the following options:

  • Check in for your flight and add passengers you wish to check in but are not shown in the Online Check-in.
  • Add your Miles & More number.
  • Select your seat and choose seats for traveling companions.
  • Select ancillary services such as an upgrade to Business Class, extra legroom seat, lounge access, additional baggage. If eligible for your flight, these services will be offered to you automatically during the Online Check-in process.
  • Rebook your flight if there are still free seats on the flight and your paid fare allows for a rebooking without a surcharge.
  • Where available, print out your boarding pass or get a Mobile Boarding Pass on your smartphone.

Passengers can print out their boarding passes, but there are a few situations when restrictions apply. The following passengers can check in online, but they can obtain the boarding pass only from a check-in desk at the airport:

Mobile Check-in

Mobile Check-in is available whenever Online Check-in is offered (except for Austrian Holidays flights). Check-in, you can choose your preferred seat, purchase services such as additional baggage, upgrades, or an extra legroom seat, and have the Mobile Boarding Pass sent to your mobile device. You can use Austrian Online Check-in Info to find out whether a Mobile Boarding Pass can be used at your departure airport.

Mobile Boarding Pass

Whether you check in online from a computer or with your mobile device, a Mobile Boarding Pass will be offered if your flight is eligible. An SMS with a link will be sent to you. Access the link and you will receive your Mobile Boarding Pass with a 2D barcode, flight number, name, and other flight data. If you don’t receive your Mobile Boarding Pass, the Mobile Boarding Pass has been accidentally deleted, or your mobile device is not working, you can always get a Boarding Pass at a Check-in desk or Self Check-in Kiosk, but not after the check-in deadline.

Kiosk Check-in

Besides the option to check in, with and without baggage, and select your preferred seat and adjacent seats for up to 3 passengers traveling together, Self-Check-in Kiosks offer flexibility with rebookings and waitlists. All you need for check-in is an electronic ticket and your 6-character booking code or a card with a magnetic stripe (credit/debit card) or passport for identification purposes. Self Check-in Kiosks where you can check in and drop your bags are available at Vienna International Airport.
