China Airlines check-in

How can I check in for my China Airlines flight?

Aside from airport counter check-in, China Airlines provide other convenient check-in options:

  • e-Check-in.
  • KIOSK Self Check-in.
  • In-town Check-in at Taipei Main Station.

What times should I take into consideration when checking in for my China Airlines flight?

It’s very important to check in on time because, if you are late, your reserved seat could be released, and you could even be denied boarding. If you have checked in online, but you are not eligible for the Self-Print Boarding Pass service or Mobile Boarding Pass service, you should pick up boarding pass around 1-2 hours prior to the flight departure time. If you haven’t already checked in online, you should take into consideration that the time required for pre-boarding procedures, as well as hours of operation for China Airlines check-in counters, vary from airport to airport.

China Airlines recommends checking-in about 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. However, for some busy airports with strict procedures such as those in the US, you may need 3 hours or even more. Also, China Airlines recommends that passengers who have special needs or considerations (e.g., Unaccompanied Minors, wheelchair users, etc.) check in at least 2 hours before scheduled departure time.

China Airlines recommends passengers to go to the boarding gate 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the flight, at the latest.

e-Check-In

To help you save time at the airport, China Airlines offers the e-Check-in service as follows:

  • From 24 hours up to 90 minutes prior to the flight scheduled departure time.
  • For all international China Airlines flights (not available for codeshare flights).
  • For all passengers with confirmed booking and electronic tickets, except passengers younger than 18 years old departing from Rome and traveling alone (due to the local government regulations).

With e-Check-in, you can check in yourself and your traveling companions (up to 9 persons in the same booking record) and select or change your seat only after you have already completed the check-in procedures. Special meal or special service is not offered during the e-Check-in process.

After completing the e-Check-in process and depending on eligibility, passengers may be offered the option to print the boarding pass online – Self-Print Boarding Pass, or to receive a Mobile Boarding Pass.

All passengers who have checked in online for flights departing from available airports are eligible for Self-Print Boarding Pass or Mobile Boarding Pass service, with the following exceptions:

  • Passengers who are transferring at Hong Kong airport are eligible for Mobile Boarding Pass, but not for Self-Print Boarding Pass.
  • Passengers who are traveling to the US, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Unaccompanied Minors and other passengers requesting special assistance.
  • Passengers who have connecting flights (passengers are still eligible when the service is available for both connecting airports and final destination).

Passengers who are not eligible for Self-Print Boarding Pass or Mobile Boarding Pass service, must obtain their boarding pass at the airport, at a China Airlines counter or, if available, from a self-service kiosk.

KIOSK Self Check-in

China Airlines self-service kiosks offer an alternative to checking in at the counter. KIOSK Self Check-in allows you to use your passport to check in for international flights, check in your traveling companions (other passengers in the same booking record) and select or change your seat assignments. KIOSK Self Check-in services are available at airports in:

  • Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Los Angeles, Nagoya, San Francisco, Sung Shan, Taichung, Taoyuan, Tokyo Haneda, Vancouver.

In-town Check-in at Taipei Main station

China Airlines offers check-in services at Taipei Main Station, including obtaining boarding passes and checking in baggage, for China Airlines or Mandarin Airlines flights (except flights to Vancouver and code-share flights) departing from Taoyuan Airport on the same day. In-town Check-in is available up to 3 hours before departure time. After boarding pass has been issued, passengers can bypass the counter and proceed directly to security and immigration.

Passengers who require special assistance, such as Unaccompanied Minors, passengers who travel with a wheelchair, etc., must go to Taoyuan Airport to complete the check-in.

Check-in and baggage drop services are offered at check-in counters, but also at Self-service Check-in Kiosks and Self-Service Baggage Drop Machines. To check in baggage, the piece of checked baggage must not exceed 70 cm in length and 158 cm in total linear dimensions. Passengers with excess baggage can complete basic check-in and drop baggage at Taipei Main Station, but they will receive the boarding pass from a check-in counter at the airport only after paying the excess baggage charges.
