What is Eurowings’ policy on hand baggage?

On Eurowings flights, the hand baggage allowance depends on the fare purchased:

Fare Hand Baggage Personal Item*
Number Weight per Piece Size per Piece** Number Size
Basic*** & Smart 1 8 kg 55 x 40 x 23 cm 1 40 x 30 x 10 cm
Best & BIZclass 2
*e.g. briefcase, handbag, laptop bag, folder satchel, etc.
**Foldable suit bags may measure up to 57 x 54 x 15 cm.
***For the Basic fare, carriage of hand baggage in the cabin is not guaranteed on fully booked flights. At the gate, you may be asked to check in your hand luggage free of charge if it meets all hand luggage requirements. On arrival, you can retrieve it at the luggage claim.

Any item exceeding these weight and size restrictions must be checked at the counter and transported in the hold, subject to checked baggage fees, if applicable. If you get at the boarding gate with excess hand baggage, it will be transferred for transportation in the hold for a €35 fee on short- & medium-haul flights and €70 on long-haul flights.

What is Eurowings’ policy on checked baggage?

Some fares include a free checked baggage allowance. When you have booked a fare that doesn’t include a free baggage allowance, you may register checked baggage upon payment of a fee.

Up to five items of baggage per passenger may be checked at the desk. Each item must not exceed 32 kg in weight. Checked baggage may be registered during the booking process or afterward. Services, such as registering baggage, excess baggage and/or sporting equipment, may be added to a booking up to the Web Check-in deadline::

  • Online, on the Eurowings website, using the mobile portal or via the Eurowings app.
  • Through Eurowings call center.
  • At the airport.

Once registered, you cannot deselect baggage you have added to your booking. Once you have checked in online, baggage can be registered only at the airport counter, where higher charges may apply.

Larger sporting equipment, such as skis, surfboards or bicycles, can be registered online as special baggage and may be subject to a fee.

There is no fee for skiing/snowboarding equipment up to 30 kg (maximum 3 pair of skis or snowboards per person and accessories such as sticks and ski/snowboarding boots).

The following fees apply for other sporting equipment such as golf equipment (per set), bicycle (except e-bikes), surfboard, bodyboard, sailboard/hang-glider, diving equipment, sports weapons (cannot be registered online):

  • €50 – short-haul & medium-haul flights.

A bicycle, golf or other sporting equipment may be checked free of charge by Eurowings cardholders when paying with the Eurowings credit card.

Baggage Service

If your checked baggage is missing when you arrive at the destination airport, you must go straight and report the incident to the Eurowings’ Lost & Found counter in the arrivals area. Eurowings cannot process claims at a later date. You can use Eurowings’ online baggage tracing system to check the status of your missing baggage. For complaints regarding damaged baggage, you must inform Eurowings as soon as you discover the damage, but no later than 7 days after claiming the baggage.
