Finnair Baggage and Carry-on

What is the carry-on allowance on Finnair flights?

When traveling with Finnair, you are allowed to carry in the passenger cabin one or two pieces of carry-on baggage, depending on your ticket type. Infants who do not occupy a seat are not allowed any carry-on baggage whatsoever.

Besides the carry-on allowance, you can bring onboard a mobility aid, such as a pair of elbow crutches or a cane. Duty-free products are counted as part of your carry-on baggage allowance. If you exceed your allowance, the extra baggage may have to be checked in, and you may have to pay applicable charges.

What is the free checked baggage allowance on Finnair flights?

Except for passengers with Superlight and Light tickets, all passengers have a free baggage allowance of at least one piece of checked baggage.

For all travel classes, each piece of baggage must have a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs) and a maximum size of up to 90 x 75 x 45 cm (35 x 30 x 18 in). Certain items usually considered special baggage may also count as a single piece of checked baggage (a musical instrument, golf equipment, a snowboard, etc.) if they meet the above-mentioned requirements.

Carry-on Baggage

The carry-on baggage must fit either in the overhead compartment or under the seat directly in front of you. Should it exceed the size limits permitting it to fit as mentioned above, or the indicated weight limit, your baggage must be checked at the counters.

Checked Baggage

When traveling with baggage that needs to be checked in, try to allow yourself plenty of time to undergo all the baggage drop and security formalities, since this may take quite some time, and you may have to queue at peak hours. Be advised that the baggage allowance differs based on your ticket type and itinerary as follows:

Baggage Service

If your baggage is delayed or when you notice it is damaged, you can contact Finnair’s ground crew at the Arrival Service desk or create the report online.

Finnair places at the traveler’s disposal a useful tool for tracking your baggage’s status, specifically the WorldTracer service. Logging into the service with your last name and the file reference number (for example, ATLXS13166) allows you to see your luggage’s shipment status, and also to provide more information about your baggage, information that can lead to a faster retrieval.

If 72 hours have passed and you still have not received your baggage, there is an additional information form that must be filled in and submitted, which can help the airline with the search for your luggage. By sending this form, you can provide other useful information that might lead to your baggage’s whereabouts.
