Hawaiian Airlines minors flying alone

What services does Hawaiian Airlines offer regarding minors?

On request, Hawaiian Airlines offers the Unaccompanied Minor Service, available for domestic flights (Neighbor Island and North America).

What are the age restrictions on domestic flights?

Children under 5 years old are allowed to travel only accompanied by a passenger at least 15 years old.

Children from 5 to 11 years old are allowed on Hawaiian Airlines flights without a companion. They are considered Unaccompanied Minors, and service requirements and fees will apply.

Children at least 12 years old may travel alone with no additional requirements. Optional, they may travel as Unaccompanied Minors, and service requirements and fees will apply.

What are the age restrictions on international flights?

Children under 12 years old are allowed on international flights only accompanied by a passenger at least 18 years old. The Unaccompanied Minor Service is not available for international flights (including flights to/from American Samoa).

Children 12 years old and above may travel unaccompanied on international flights.

Additional documentation may be required for passengers under 18 years old, when traveling on international flights, accompanied or not.

Unaccompanied Minor Service

The Unaccompanied Minor Service is mandatory for children 5 to 12 years old and optional for children at least 12 years old.

Restrictions

Unaccompanied Minors may travel only on flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines. Hawaiian Airlines does not accept unaccompanied minors on any codeshare flights.

The Unaccompanied Minor Service is subject to restrictions regarding connecting flights, departure hours, and routes. When traveling on connecting flights, unaccompanied minors will be accepted only if:

  • All flights are operated by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • The last flight to the final destination is not the last connecting flight of the day.
  • The ground time between connecting flights does not exceed 2 hours, except when the next scheduled connecting flight departs more than 2 hours after the scheduled arrival of the previous flight.

On flights scheduled for departure between 9 PM and 5 AM, Unaccompanied Minors are accepted only if it is the only flight of the day operated out of Honolulu.

Drop-off and Pick-up

Unaccompanied Minors must be checked in at the airport by a parent or responsible adult, who is required to complete necessary documentation, including contact information for the receiving adult, accompany the child/children to the gate, and remain there until the airplane has taken off.

The receiving adult must pick up the child upon arrival, at the designated area, or at the gate if permitted. Hawaiian Airlines will provide a special gate pass for the adult accompanying/expecting the child at the airport.

Fees

In addition to full adult fare, the Unaccompanied Minor Service fee is mandatory and payable at the time of check-in:

  • $35 per flight segment for Neighbor Island flights.
  • $100 per flight segment for North America flights.

For a single fee, Hawaiian Airlines accepts up to 2 minors in an immediate family with the same drop-off/pick-up information.
