Jetstar Airways minors flying alone

Is there a service offered by Jetstar for children traveling alone?

Jetstar does not offer any services for children traveling alone and requires that passengers are able to travel independently. Jetstar doesn’t have the staff or facilities required to assume responsibility for assistance and supervision of passengers. Therefore, children requiring supervision will not be regarded as able to travel independently. They will not be accepted for travel unless accompanied by an appropriate Accompanying Passenger.

Accompanying Passenger means a paying passenger who satisfies the Independent Traveller requirement and will provide the appropriate assistance and/or supervision. Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Pacific (BL) and Jetstar Japan (GK) considers passengers at least 15 years old to be an appropriate Accompanying Passenger for a child aged 2 to 11 years inclusively. As an exception, on Japan domestic flights operated by Jetstar Japan (GK), the Accompanying Passenger for children may be 12 years or older.

On Jetstar Asia (3K) flights and all flights connecting to a Jetstar Asia (3K) flight, Accompanying Passengers for children must be aged 18 years or more (except where the parent is less than 18 years old).

How old must be my child to travel alone on Jetstar flights?

Age requirements for children traveling alone may vary depending on the child’s itinerary and operating carrier.

On all Jetstar (JQ) flights, children who are enrolled in or attending secondary school may be able to travel alone. At check-in, Jetstar requires proof that, at the time of the flight, the child is either enrolled in or attending secondary school or at least 12 years old (children 12 years and over are generally required to enroll in secondary school). You can prove secondary school attendance with a school ID card from a secondary school (can be from a previous year and may be expired), or a letter from the secondary school (on a school letterhead) confirming attendance or enrollment in secondary school (including for the coming year after graduation from primary school).

For travel on flights operated by Jetstar Asia (3K), Jetstar Pacific (BL), or Jetstar Japan (GK), children aged 12 or over may travel alone.

However, for Jetstar Pacific (BL) flights, the parents/guardians must complete and sign a declaration at check-in for a child between the ages of 12-14 years to be accepted for travel unaccompanied.

Also, the parent/guardian of a young passenger traveling alone on Jetstar Asia (3K) flights must download and complete the young passenger declaration form and accompany the young passenger at the airport to submit the signed declaration form, and show photographic ID (passport, driving licence, or NRIC) to a Jetstar employee.
