LATAM Airlines minors flying alone

Does LATAM Airlines offer services for children traveling alone?

LATAM offers an Unaccompanied Minor service. LATAM staff will take care of them for the entire journey, including stopovers, and will hand them over to the responsible person at the end of the journey.

How old should be a child to qualify for the Unaccompanied Minor service?

The Unaccompanied Minor service is mandatory or optional, depending on the age of the minor:

  • Children aged 8-11 can travel alone, as long as parents or legal guardians arrange for the Unaccompanied Minor service.
  • Children aged 12-17 can travel alone, and, if parents or legal guardians wish so, they may arrange for this service on an optional basis.

Unaccompanied Minor Service

The Unaccompanied Minor service must be requested up to 48 hours before the flight via LATAM Contact Center. Since the Unaccompanied Minor service is subject to availability, the fare should be purchased after the service has been confirmed.

The responsible adult must present him or herself at the check-in counter, complete the Transport of Minors Form and wait for the departure of the flight with the child. A child cannot use the service if he or she has any particular medical requirement. Children with mobility problems can opt for the service provided that they can move themselves in the event of an evacuation and respond to safety instructions. Children must meet their basic hygiene needs and be able to feed themselves.

The Unaccompanied Minor service is available on all direct flights operated by LATAM Airlines Group (LATAM Brasil, LATAM Paraguay, LATAM Chile, LATAM Colombia, LATAM Ecuador, LATAM Peru). The service is not available on flights that include long overnight stopovers and on codeshare flights.

For children 12-17 years of age, the Unaccompanied Minor service is also available on itineraries with connection flights operated by LATAM, if they do not change airports, the waiting time is no longer than 4 hours, and the connecting flight is not the last flight of the day (except when there is only one flight per day).
