Sun Country Airlines flying with babies

Is there a minimum age requirement for infants to be accepted on Sun Country Airlines flights?

Infants younger than 8 days are not permitted to travel on any Sun Country Airlines flight.

When does Sun Country Airlines require to purchase a ticket and reserve a seat for my child?

Lap children may travel free of charge on Sun Country Airlines flights, but the number of infants in a party cannot be greater than the number of adults. Because there is a limit of one 1 lap child per ticketed adult, when you are traveling with more than one child under the age of 2 years, for the second baby a ticket must be purchased to reserve a seat for the use of an approved child safety seat.

Because FAA regulations require any child who is 2 years of age or older to occupy his/her own seat during takeoff and landing, a ticket must be purchased if your child has reached his/her second birthday.

Lap Children

Children under the age of 2 years may travel on the lap of an accompanying adult, free of charge. An adult must be at least 18 years of age to be allowed to travel with a baby on his/her lap. A child between the ages of 15 and 17 years cannot travel with a lap child unless they are the parent of the lap child.

There is a limit of one lap child per ticketed adult, so when you book your flight online the number of infants in a party cannot exceed the number of adults. Also, only one lap child per approved row is permitted.

When traveling with an infant on your lap, you cannot check in online. You must check in with an agent at the ticket counter, and a copy of the child’s birth certificate may be required.

Your child’s carry-on baggage is counted toward your carry-on baggage allowance when your baby will sit on your lap during the flight. Child restraint systems are not permitted on board when the child does not have a seat reserved, and must be checked as baggage. Car seats and strollers can be checked at no additional charge, when traveling with a child. You may use an infant carrier or stroller that can be “gate-checked” to your final destination and returned to you at the arrival gate, when you reach your destination.

Infants with Reserved Seats

If you reserve a seat for your baby, you may want to consider using an FAA-approved child restraint device (i.e., car seat, the AmSafe Aviation CARES) for safety. A government-approved, hard-backed child restraint device may be carried on board when a ticket is purchased, and an additional seat is reserved for the infant. The child restraint device must be properly secured by the seat belt, and it is the accompanying adult’s responsibility to secure the restraint system and the child into the seat. Booster seats are permitted.

Passengers traveling with infants must check in at the Sun Country ticket counter, even when checking-in for a domestic flight. An infant with a reserved seat has his/her own carry-on allowance. In addition, a child restraint system may be carried on board for use during the flight. Strollers may be checked at no additional charge.

Toddlers

On Sun Country Airlines flights, children between the ages of 2 and 5 years must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age. A child between the ages of 13 and 17 years of age cannot be responsible for any child between the ages of 2 and 5 years unless they are the parent of the child. Children between the ages of 5 and 13 years must be accompanied by a passenger at least 15 years of age, on the same flight and in the same compartment, unless the child is allowed to travel as an Unaccompanied Minor. A child at least 15 years of age may accompany or be the responsible guardian for only one child between the ages of 5 and 13 years.
